Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my vehicle be treated?

Oil Gard products are designed to be applied on an annual basis.

When it the best time to have my vehicle Oil Garded?

Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to have your vehicle treated only in the fall. Rust is a year-round problem. It doesn’t matter when you have it done during the year, as long as you have it applied annually. Spring and summer applications are just as effective as fall applications.

What if there is rust evident on my vehicle already?

Oil Gard products are designed not only to prevent rust but to slow down the growth of existing rust.

Does weather affect the application of Oil Gard?

Our products are designed to displace moisture and are not affected by wet conditions. Ask your Oil Gard franchisee about our Rain Check program!

If I use Oil Gard will it void my warranty?

No! We will be happy to review your warranty coverage with you. None of the warranties say that aftermarket rust-proofing will void the warranty. In fact, all of the manufacturers sell rust-proofing through their dealerships and all of them are aftermarket products. There is no warranty that guarantees the vehicles will not rust. The warranties only provide for the repair of rust damage.

Does my vehicle need to be drilled?

Proper access to most rust prone areas of today’s vehicles has been made easier by the presence of factory openings. However, to ensure complete coverage Oil Gard may need to drill additional access holes. Your local Oil Gard franchisee can answer in detail the application on your specific vehicle.

Are Oil Gard products messy?

Oil Gard offers two different products. Formula 2 No Drip, as the name implies, does not drip. It penetrates and creeps at a slow pace. Oil Gard Classic does drip a bit in the first few hours after application. It is designed to penetrate and creep quite quickly.

What is the cost of Oil Gard Rust Protection?

A typical Oil Gard application costs under $100.00 – a small investment to protect your vehicle. Ask the Oil Gard franchisee in your specific area to confirm actual pricing.

What if my vehicle has plastic components?

Some manufacturers use plastic compounds to make parts such as fenders or hoods. The application of Oil Gard to these parts is not necessary. Your local franchisee will advise you about what components of your vehicle do not need the Oil Gard treatment.
